Welcome to Kreuttal
(Welcome to Kreuttal) , railway underpass to the Kreuttal region, design 2010[ show text ][ hide text ]
The intention of Welcome to Kreuttal is to make the newly designed railway underpass more attractive for people and to help them to get their visual bearings quickly at a location that is important for road traffic, but also constitutes a dangerous bottleneck. Two differently curved wing walls, reminiscent of arms or tongues, expand the area visually and make one feel welcome. On the other side of the underpass, the optics of both the colour and the design serve to slow drivers down.

The side walls of the underpass have been extended in the direction of Kreuttal, and the colour incorporated into the new design. This produces the overall impression that a new element has been added, one which is now clearly differentiated from the bridge.
Clarity has also been improved by coating the whole area with the daylight luminous paint commonly used in the transport sector, and by adding reflector sheeting on the valley side. The problem of unclear signposting has also been addressed in the new design: below the main “Willkommen in Kreuttal” (“Welcome to Kreuttal”) sign are four smaller signposts pointing towards the villages of the municipality.
